RAOB Banners

The Grand Lodge of England is known as the limited section, while the Grand Lodge of England Inc. is referred to as the GLE. The GLE is considered the largest of the Buffalo orders. The movement, which began in 1822, has seen numerous schisms leading to the formation of many different Buffalo orders and an estimated 20,000 lodges.

Early orders, such as the Grand Surrey Lodge, Grand Surrey Banner (Mother Lodge), and Grand Executive Banner, often competed with each other. It was common for different lodges from various orders to meet in the same town, sometimes with four or more different lodges operating concurrently. Over time, these various orders have largely resolved their differences and now cooperate.

Albion Lodge No. 1, situated in Liverpool, holds the top spot on the roll of the Grand Lodge of England (Birmingham Section). Its designation as "No. 1" is misleading, as it wasn't the first lodge established under the Grand Primo Lodge. Albion has long held this distinction. The lodge acquired this number in the 1920s during a renumbering initiative by the GLE (Birmingham Section). During this process, lodges were moved up to fill vacancies left by closed lodges, resulting in Albion's elevation to the No. 1 position.
